After much anticipation (3 months worth of work to get my hot tub running properly without leaks) I can FINALLY review this product! Let me pre-curse all info in this review by saying that this is the first product I have ever personally bought to maintain a hot tub or spa so I am a beginner but an educated one none-the-less. The hot tub I refer to is a PREVIOUSLY USED, late 1990's, (1998ish - when the house was built) model hot tub with no user manual or info of any kind included. It came with the house that my wife and I purchased. Upon initial inspection it had no power at all. That was remedied easily with a new GFCI receptacle. After powering up, I deducted that it needed a new control unit (water was running, moving, jets working, but not getting hot at all, so instead of trying to retrofit new parts with old/existing ones we opted to purchase an entire new spa-pack (Motor, pump, heater, control unit, control panel, light, blower, a couple of attached plumbing pieces.) We purchased a Spa Guts electronic spa pack (120 volt) with Balboa pump for $600+ to replace the existing pneumatic system. It was a much needed and worthy investment if you ask me considering we had no other money tied into the hot tub at all and this insured everything (except the plumbing itself) was working properly. I highly suggest them as their customer service and help has been invaluable, not to mention their website is HIGHLY informative on EVERYTHING from chemicals to actual repairs/installations. I ran into a few minor plumbing issues (I'm a handy guy but NOT a plumber obviously) but was able to finally get everything to seal, leak free, after putting a little time and elbow grease into it. Anyways, to the product itself...
Opening package - I immediately noticed LOTS of bottles of product, a paper/placard users manual, test strips, and even a couple surprises I didn't except or see on the list... and last but not least an instructional DVD!!! While fairly basic, it did help me to remember the order that the products go into the water, how often to use them, and also have a visual/interactive guide with which to implement Leisure Time's Free System. I am IMPRESSED so far.
May 2012 - First round/dose of chemicals - I begin to fill the hot tub, follow the instructions carefully and add each chemical in order once the water is high enough. There is ZERO smell whatsoever other than my hot tub and lid itself and the clean, natural smell of the water which is unfiltered and un-softened straight out of my water hose pouring city water in. After it fills, I test the water with a test-strip and all of my readings are within tolerable levels except the Sanitizer, which I have not added at this point. I add the sanitizer in shortly there-after. You can see that a couple of the products need to be shaken VERY VERY WELL as they are mixed solid/liquid chemicals inside the bottle vs. some that are just clear liquid and add noticeably sightless after entering the water. The CONTROL MUST be shaken well. It put some small white flakes in my water but I figured it would dissolve shortly and it did. In fact, I'm fairly certain that's what turned into the thin layer of white foam I have at the top of my water now. I figured some was to be expected and mine is not an issue at all. What I was surprised by and not too happy with was that the chemicals seemed to turn the water murky and cloudy. Not at all clear, as the bottle of BOOST advertises that it cures. As its only been a week, I will keep an eye on it and see if this gets better. The one thing I do love is the way my skin feels when I get out of he spa. Its soft and even more moist with zero chlorine smell vs. when I got out of friends spas and/or swimming pools and need a shower and lotion rub just to cohabitate again. Other than the cloudiness I am VERY pleased with my order and will continue to use the Leisure Time FREE System. I will continue to update this review as more info becomes known...
